Help
Everything you need to get started, and what the words in the app mean.
Getting started
- Create your BettyBot account on the sign-up page.
- Get a Betfair account. BettyBot reads live prices from the Betfair exchange, so you'll need a free Betfair account.
- Open accounts with a few bookmakers you'd like to bet with, and add them in the app under Betting.
- Install BettyBot on your Mac or Windows computer and log in with your BettyBot email and password. (Downloads coming soon.)
- Set your limits in Settings → Safer gambling: how much you're happy to stake and lose in a day.
- Start in practice mode. Watch how it does for a few days with pretend bets before using real money.
- Press Start and leave it running. Check in on the Tracker to see how you're doing.
What the words mean
- Exchange price / fair price
- The price on the Betfair exchange. Because thousands of people bet there, it's a good guide to a runner's real chance of winning.
- Signal
- BettyBot spotted a runner's exchange price dropping quickly, which often means a bookmaker hasn't caught up yet.
- Value
- How much better the bookmaker's price is than the fair price. +10% value means the bookmaker is offering 10% more than the runner is really worth.
- Practice bet
- A pretend bet, so you can see how BettyBot does without risking money. Practice bets never count towards commission.
- Completed / Not completed
- Whether a bet actually went on. A bet may not complete if the odds changed, the bookmaker limited the stake, or it took too long.
- Expected value
- What you'd expect to win on average from the value in your bets. Over many bets, your profit should follow it, but on any day it can be far above or below.
- Commission period
- Every 14 days we add up your profit. If it's positive, we invoice our share. If not, you pay nothing and the loss is carried forward.
Tips
- Value betting is a long game. Judge it over hundreds of bets, not one day.
- Spread your betting across several bookmakers. Bookmakers sometimes limit accounts that win often.
- Keep enough money in each bookmaker account for the stakes you've set.
- Keep your computer on, awake and connected while BettyBot is running.
Safer gambling
BettyBot is meant to be a steady, long-term tool, not a way to chase losses.
- Set limits. In the app, Settings → Safer gambling lets you set a daily loss limit, a daily stake limit, and take a break for 24 hours, a week or a month. A break can't be cancelled early.
- Only bet what you can afford to lose. Never borrow money to bet.
- Take breaks and keep an eye on how much time and money you spend.
- Need to stop? You can block all UK gambling sites with GAMSTOP (gamstop.co.uk), and block gambling apps and websites on your devices with blocking software.
- Free, confidential help is available 24/7 from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 and at BeGambleAware.
